Ask what the minimum actually covers

A cat litter MOQ may describe a production batch, a packing run, an individual formulation or a printed-bag order. These are different constraints. Before comparing supplier offers, ask which part of the order each minimum applies to and whether it is stated in metric tons, bags, cartons or another unit.

Write the proposed opening order as a short SKU list. Include the formulation, scent, pack size, artwork version and quantity for each line. A single total tonnage can hide several small production or print runs. Ask the supplier to quote this actual combination instead of a general minimum advertised for the category.

Keep samples separate from a production trial

A sample helps you select and evaluate a formulation. It does not establish the production minimum or reserve manufacturing capacity. Confirm the sample code, amount and shipping arrangements, then record your test conditions and observations. See the cat litter sample and trial-order guide for the information to prepare.

A trial order is a commercial production order. Its quotation should identify the approved formulation, quantity, packaging, inspection requirements and delivery basis. Confirm whether the proposed trial uses a regular formulation or requires a separate production setup. Do not assume the conditions for an unbranded sample apply to a fully customized order.

Check printed-packaging commitments

Custom packaging can have a minimum independent of the litter quantity. Ask for the number of bags that must be printed, the quantity used for your first order and what happens to any remaining bags. Agree who owns and stores the balance, how it is identified and what happens if your next order changes the formulation or artwork.

Separate one-time artwork or setup costs from the repeat unit price where the supplier quotes them. Confirm the approved dieline, print proof and revision before production. If you are still developing a brand, use the private-label cat litter brief to organize the product and packaging decisions together.

Compare quotations on the same basis

A lower unit price is difficult to assess if the quotations use different pack sizes or delivery terms. Put the product specification, net contents, carton configuration, quoted quantity, currency, delivery basis and destination into the same comparison sheet. Record which costs are included and which need a separate quotation.

Avoid increasing the opening order solely to reach a headline price. Compare the stock you expect to use, storage requirements and the flexibility to change your range. Ask for more than one feasible order configuration when the first option does not fit your launch plan.

A first-order inquiry checklist

  • Product category, formulation or approved sample reference.
  • Target quantity per SKU, with the unit clearly stated.
  • Retail or bulk pack size and branding requirements.
  • Destination and preferred delivery window.
  • Separate product, packing and printed-bag minimums.
  • Handling of unused custom packaging and repeat-order conditions.

Mainland confirms minimum quantities for the selected formulation and packaging. Send a wholesale inquiry with your proposed SKU list to discuss a practical trial order. No fixed MOQ is implied by this guide.
